Minor rescued; two killed in police action

[2013-02-04 / HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE] BIRGUNJ: Police today rescued a minor, who was kidnapped nine days ago from Adarsha Nagar in Birgunj, from a house located at Bhediyari VDC in Parsa. Two kidnappers were killed in police action.

Eight-year-old Slok Agarwal, police said, was abducted by his own uncle Kunal Agarwal. Police have also arrested six persons involved in kidnapping Slok, son of Ashok Agarwal, a clearing agent. SP Pitambar Adhikary of Parsa District Police Office said at a press conference that Kunal had sweet-talked his nephew saying he would buy a toy for him and then handed the child to abductors with a motive of demanding Rs 2 million ransom. Police had reached the house of Ramnath Giri in Bhediyari after receiving a tip-off that the abducted child was kept there. SP Adhikary added that Slok was sleeping in the lap of Ramnath’s wife Rambhadevi Giri when police entered the house.

Police have arrested Kunal, Ramnath’s wife Rambhadevi, his son Ajay, Pannalal Sahani, Rajanbabu Baniya and Sikendra Yadav.

Ramnath’s two other sons Sanjay and Bindeswor, who were critically injured in police firing, died while undergoing treatment.

Yet another kidnapper Santosh Singh, a district level cadre of Bhagat Singh Group, an armed outfit in Tarai, is at large, said police.

Police have impounded two guns, five rounds of bullets and two sickles.

Constables Surya Bahadur Thapa and Bodh Bahadur Thapa, who had received minor injuries, are doing fine, said police.

Slok’s grandfather Gobardhan thanked the police for rescuing his grandson. He said he could not believe that Kunal had kidnapped Slok.
