MORANG, JAN 03 – Alliance for Independent Madhes (AIM) Coordinator CK Raut, who was released after posting bail on Sunday, was again detained briefly on Saturday.
Police in Biratnagar held Raut on Saturday as he was about to deliver a speech on Degree Campus premises at Jatuwa in the district. Raut is kept at the Morang District Police Office. He was released in the evening.
Following his arrest, Raut supporters clashed with police. Security personnel resorted to baton-charging and fired six tear gas shells to take control of the situation. While police held 12 others, 15 people were injured in the clash. The injured are being treated at Nobel Medical College and Koshi Zonal Hospital.
Meanwhile, DSP Prabhu Prasad Dhakal said 13 police personnel, including Inspector Om Prakash Khanal, sustained minor injuries.
Police had heightened surveillance on Raut after learning about his public address in Biratnagar and seized a vehicle used for publicity on Friday. Raut supporters also accused police of destroying the stage built for his address. Raut is accused of initiated a separatist move.
