KATHMANDU, April 23: Madhesi activist CK Raut, who was charged of sedition, has secured clean chit from Special Court on Thursday.

Raut was booked under the Public Offence Act and the police had carried out an investigation into his campaign for “independent Madhes.”On September 18, the police had brought Raut to Kathmandu from Biratnagar.

The government on October 8 had filed a charge-sheet against Raut at the Special Court charging him with sedition.

Earlier, the Morang Police had arrested Raut on September 14 from Rangeli in the district. The government had demanded life imprisonment or 10 year jail term for Raut, stating he was found guilty of treason as he had been carrying out anti-national activities.

Raut had even launched a hunger strike for 11 days in police custody in Morang arguing that his right to freedom and expression was violated by the government. He broke his hunger strike after the government´s request.
