Speaker bars MPs from raising sub judice cases

Kantipur, KATHMANDU, SEP 22 – Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang stopped lawmakers on Monday from raising in Parliament matters sub judice in court. They were attempting to discuss the issue of CK Raut, who has been detained for his “secessionist moves”.

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Nepal lawmaker Mohamad Lal Babu Raut raised the issue of CK, who is in judicial custody. He was arrested on September 14 from Morang and was brought to Kathmandu last week on Thursday.

CPN-UML Chief Whip Agni Kharel had objected to lawmakers raising the issue. Babu was speaking on behalf of the opposition in relation to the implementation of the four-point agreement signed between major parties in December last year.

The opposition obstructed the House for the 11th time on Monday demanding the implementation of the accord that calls for, among other things, forming a High-Level Political Committee.

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Chin Kaji Shrestha said it made no sense to obstruct House proceedings to push for something decided outside of it.
