SC quashes habeas corpus petition of CK Raut

KATHMANDU, Sept 24: The Supreme Court on Wednesday quashed a habeas corpus petition demanding the release of Madhes activist CK Raut.

A division bench of justices Sushila Karki and Gobinda Kumar Upaddhyay quashed the petition stating that a case of anti-national activities against him is sub-judice at the Special Court and that the court has allowed the police to keep him under detention. SC, however, ordered the government to make arrangements for his treatment.

Raut´s brother Surya Kant Raut had filed the habeas corpus. Earlier on Sunday, a division bench of justices Girish Chandra Lal and Sushila Karki had sought clarification from the defendants and the Special Court over his detention.

Police in Morang district had detained Raut from Rangeli in the district on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Special Court on Wednesday remanded Raut for 14 more days.
