‘CK Raut’s condition critical’

TKP/KATHMANDU, SEP 30 – CK Raut, a Madhesi campaigner who stands accused of being involved in a secessionist campaign, is in critical condition.

Raut, who has been staging fast-unto-death since September 20, has complained of pain in stomach and chest, doctors involved in his treatment said, adding that his health is deteriorating. Dr KP Singh of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital said his gripping strength was very weak and he was complaining of pain in various parts of the body. “He is critical. We are trying to stabilise his condition by administering saline,” he said. Raut was admitted to hospital on Thursday after complains of severe stomach pain.

Raut was arrested by Morang police on September 13 and was booked under the Public Offence Act. The Morang District Administration Office had then remanded Raut to a six-day custody to probe his campaign for “independent Madhes”. The Supreme Court later asked police to present Raut before court.
